Preschool Class Options for 2024-25
3 Days per week (T-TH-F, 9:00-12:45) 12 duty days per school year
*Birthdates between 6/1/2019 - 5/31/2021 Class size: 10
*We will consider adding children born in June - September of 2021 if we have space available.
Students will be placed in the appropriate class, balanced by age and sex, just before school starts.
The age span for each class will be no greater than 12 months between the oldest and youngest child,
although the age span of our preschool classes is typically tighter than this (usually around 8-9 months).
Our three day per week preschool classes are led by professional educators with parents rotating as the teacher's assistant. First and foremost we value the opportunities we have to encourage social and emotional development and a biblical worldview in our preschool students. Both during direct teaching times and in the context of opportunities that arise at school, our teachers take the time to guide students through biblical principals and toward greater character development. Our students engage in many different components during their time at school, including free play, circle time, devotional lessons, lunch time, outdoor recess, hands-on learning centers, art/craft time, picture studies (lessons in learning to observe and appreciate art taught by our art educator), and general music classes (taught by our music educator). We use the DC Early Learning Standards to guide our academic instruction, which focuses on giving our students an excellent foundation as they move toward Kindergarten entrance. Our goal is to expose our students to enjoyable learning opportunities through both direct teaching times and hands-on experiments, projects, and learning centers which expose the children to pre-numeracy and early literacy training through the lens of literature, science, social studies, art, and music. With all of this we are careful not to push academic achievement in these early years, as this can lead to children who are stressed and/or who grow to dislike the learning process. Our goal is to expose the children to many different learning opportunities and provide them with the chance to explore a variety of things, while also modeling what it looks like to be curious and enjoy the learning process.

Our two day per week preschool class is led by a professional educator with parents rotating as the teacher's assistant. As this is many students’ first classroom experience, our goals include instruction toward mastery of new environments, both at school and in the community. We seek to guide these 2.5- 3 year olds toward greater spiritual and social-emotional development as they learn to respectfully interact in a classroom setting with teachers, other adults, and peers. These social - emotional teaching moments are some of the most important lessons learned during the preschool years, and our teachers take the time to instruct students in Biblical principals and character training as opportunities arise (which they often do in a preschool class)! A typical day includes the following components: free play, circle time (including literature, songs, finger plays, and devotional lessons), snack time, outdoor recess, hands-on learning centers, art/craft time, and lunch. Along with exposure to typical preschool topics (shapes, colors, counting, animals, seasons, holidays, community helpers, etc.) we cover topics that will interest our youngest students such as “Being a Good Friend”, “A New Baby at Home” and “Going to the Doctor”.
