Applying to the High School

Thank you for your interest in The High School at CHLG.
Applications for 2021-22 are now being accepted.
Before applying please read the High School Membership Agreement.  This document will give you additional details about our program as well as information about what is expected from participating families.   You may also want to read an informative Q&A about the High School if you haven't done so already, and/or view the recording from our January 26th Parent / Student Informational Meeting HERE.

If you would like to visit the school please contact us to request a date for a socially distanced, masked tour.

Please Read the application information below to determine the best application option for your family (these options are also explained within the application).  When you are ready to apply please click on the application button below.

High School Application

Our application options and deadlines for 2021-22 are as follows:

First Priority - Deadline for Application - February 1st
First Priority applicants are families who consider CHLG their first choice and who are willing to place a deposit at the time of application (this enables us to place those who are most committed to our programs first). A signed copy of the Membership Agreement, a $100 application fee, and a non-refundable deposit of one-fifth of the total annual tuition is required (deposit to be returned only if the student is not placed).  Applying First Priority commits you to pay out the full annual tuition according to our monthly payment schedule if your child is placed.  First Priority applicants who are not offered a placement will have their deposit refunded and will be added to our wait list.

First Priority - Applying for Tuition Assistance- Deadline for Application - February 1st
If you have applied for Tuition Assistance (or are planning to apply- please note that tuition assistance applications must be postmarked by January 15th-applications can be found on our website) you may apply FIRST PRIORITY without paying the application fee or deposit.  Once your tuition assistance award, if any, has been determined you can finalize your FIRST PRIORITY application by submitting a signed Membership Agreement, the application fee and an appropriate deposit (amount to be determined based on any tuition award provided).  You will be informed of any tuition award by February 15th.  The signed Membership Agreement, application fee and deposit must be submitted no later than February 22nd to maintain your FIRST PRIORITY application status.

Second Priority - Deadline for Application - February 1st
The Second Priority application is for families who are considering several private options and are not ready to commit to CHLG as a first choice.  Second Priority applicants apply with a $100 application fee.  If offered a placement these applicants must accept the placement offer by March 10th.  Acceptance of the offer requires a non-refundable deposit of one-fifth of the total annual tuition and a signed copy of the Membership Agreement (which includes a commitment to pay out the full annual tuition according to the regular monthly tuition schedule).  Second Priority applicants who are not offered placement will have the option to be added to our wait list.

Rolling Application- Anytime After February 2nd
The Rolling Application is for anyone who considers CHLG their first schooling choice, but who missed the February 1st deadline.  A signed copy of the CHLG Membership Agreement, a $100 application fee, and a non-refundable deposit of one-fifth of the total annual tuition is required (deposit to be returned only if the child is not placed).  Applying via the Rolling Admission option commits you to pay out the full annual tuition according to our monthly payment schedule if your child is placed.  Decisions for Rolling Admissions Applicants will be made after placements are granted to First and Second priority applicants, and after informal student assessments and parent interviews have been completed.  Those applying via the Rolling Application option who are not offered a placement will have their deposit refunded and will be added to our wait list.

Waitlist Application- After mid-March if placement is not available for your child
You can apply using the waitlist application if you are applying after acceptance notifications go out in early March and you have been told that our placements are full for your child’s grade (please reach out to us first and ask about availability). If a placement is not available we will add your child to the wait list for the appropriate class.  No application fee or deposit is required when applying for the waitlist.  In a transient city like D.C. it is not uncommon for placements to open up during the summer and/or during the school year.
